My experience and qualifications
I am trained to provide both talking therapy and art therapy and have a background in art as well as business.
Experience
Alongside my private practice, I have set up and run weekly art therapy groups for a substance abuse recovery centre and I have worked as a psychotherapist for mental health charities (MIND) and in schools. I have previously held psychotherapy positions in two NHS trusts in London, providing individual and group art psychotherapy to inpatients and on Forensic Wards.
I also work as an external tutor and examiner for the Institute of Art and Therapy in Education (IATE) and as a clinical supervisor.
My previous career in international marketing management in two different countries, has given me a deep appreciation of life challenges regarding transitioning between different cultures, careers and ways of life.
One of my interests is working with issues around identity and self-esteem and how major life changes affect us in who we are and how we cope with things.
My experience as an artist has taught me the value of different forms of communication and the wisdom of unspoken expression through the body, art works, dreams or fantasies. I incorporate this into my work where appropriate.
Qualifications & Training
I have a Master’s Degree in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy from the Institute for Arts and Therapy in Education (UEL). Art psychotherapist is a state regulated profession and requires a rigorous training, which includes 4+ years of personal therapy. The Institute for Art and Therapy in Education (IATE) is unique in that its graduates are trained and registered Art Therapists as well as Integrative Therapists and often combine both talking therapy and art therapy.
I abide by the codes of practice and ethics of my membership organisations, UKCP, HCPC, BAAT and BACP. I attend regular continued professional training sessions to keep up to date with relevant developments in psychotherapy and neuroscience. I work with a clinical supervisor to regularly review my work.
I am committed to working inclusively with individuals of different cultures, genders, sexual orientation and age.
